In dredging for gold or even digging basements, it was common to dig up mastodon bones. This huge tusk was unearthed in the late 40s at the Ester Gold Mine near Fairbanks. This is evidence of the prehistoric animals that roamed Alaska and the arctic before the Ice Ages.
