Skagway

Skagway is located at the end of Lynn Canal--N. America's deepest and longest fjord. In 1898, when gold was discovered in the Klondike, Skagway burgeoned from a tiny Indian village to a town of over 25,000 virtually overnight. For a time, it was the most lawless US city. From Skagway, nearly 1/2 million "Klondikers" began their epic journeys across the White Pass or Chilkoot Pass to reach Canada's gold fields. Skagway (now a town of 800) has a COLORFUL history. Today, it is host to nearly one million visitors each summer, and it is a city like none other!
